PRONOUN

Pronoun adalah kata yang digunakan untuk menggantikan kata benda, baik berupa orang maupun selain orang.

Pronoun Functions
Pronoun dapat berfungsi sebagai
a. Subject of verb
b. Subject of complement
c. Object of verb
d. Object of preposition
e. Head of modifier
f. Adverb of vocative

Pronoun dibedakan menjadi beberapa bagian, antara lain:
1. Personal Pronoun

2. Reflexive Pronoun
Adalah kata ganti yang merefleksikan kata benda. Contoh dalam kalimat

• She came here with yourself.
• I myself do this work.
• I love you yourself.

   Catatan:
Apabila Reflexive Pronoun diawali dengan preposisi "by", maka akan bermakna 'alone'. The boy goes to school by himself.

3. Reciprocal Pronoun
Merupakan kata ganti yang menimbulkan makna saling atau timbal balik. Reciprocal Pronoun terdiri dari dua jenis, yaitu:
a. each other yaitu untuk menyatakan saling antara dua orang.
Examples:
Andri and Andrea love each other.
Louis and Lissa are interested in each other.

b. one another yaitu untuk menyatakan saling lebih dari dua orang.
Examples:
The students throw one another.
The army and the enemy shoot one another in the war.

4. Demonstrative Pronoun
Adalah kata ganti penunjuk, terdiri dari:
a. That (singular)
Examples:
That is my girl.
My brother is that.

b. Those (Plural)
Examples:
Those are my friends.
The books are those.

c. This (Singular)
Examples:
This is your t-shirt.
I like this.

d. These (Plural)
Examples:
These are my students.
Don't talk about these.

5. Interrogative Pronoun
Who > yang ditanyakan adalah subjek
Whom > yang ditanyakan adalah objek
Whose > kepunyaan
Which > menanyakan pilihan
Where > menanyakan tempat
When > menanyakan waktu
How > Menanyakan bagaimana atau cara

6. Indefinite Pronoun
Adalah kata ganti yang digunakan sebagai pengganti benda yang belum jelas. Antara lain terdiri dari
Someone        Somebody              Something
Everyone        Everybody              Everything
Noone            Nobody                  Nothing
Anyone           Anybody                Anything
