Story of Lake Toba
A long time ago, there was fisherman in Batak land. His name was Batara Guru Sahala. He was handsome but he was poor. He lived in an old hut. He had no wife and children.
One day, he went to the lake with his boat. A long day he did not catch any fishes. Then he wa lucky, he caught a golden fish. He was surprised that the fish could talk.
The golden fish changed into a beautiful woman. She spoke to Sahala that she was a fairy. Sahala fell in love and married her. But Sahala never told that she was a fish.
They married. They lived happily. They had two beatiful daughters. Sahala was rich and had many good boats to look for fishes in the lake.
One day as usual, Sahala's daughters sent him some meals for his lunch. And they never touched the meal because it was forbidden. But that day they ate up the meal. It made Sahala angry and said that they were daughters of fish.
Sahala broke his promise. His wife and daughters ran to the lake and changed into fishes. Then now the people of Batak believe that the fishes in Lake Toba are the descendants of Batara Guru Sahala and his wife.

Roro Jonggrang
Once upon a time, there was a beautiful woman who lost her father, King Boko. The beautiful woman was Roro Jonggrang.
Bandung Bondowoso, the man who killed Roro Jonggrang's father. He knew the beauty of Roro Jonggrang. So he wanted Roro Jonggrang to be his wife. But Roro Jonggrang refused to marry of the murderer of her father.
Roro Jonggrang told her Patih about her trouble. Patih advised her to ask Bandung make a thousand temples in one night.
Roro Jonggrang asked Bandung Bondowoso made a thousand tamples in one night. Bandung received what Roro Jonggrang said.
Bandung Bondowoso made a thousand tamples in one night. He used the magic power so the work nearly finished.
Roro Jonggrang ordered the villagers to beat the rice grinder. Bandung was angry to find the work uncompleted. He forced Roro Jonggrang to replace the statue. The statue Roro Jonggrang stands in Prambanan Temple now.

The Golden Snail
Once upon a time, there was an old widow. Her name was mbok Rondo Dadapan. She was very poor. Her job was looking for the fish along the river. The river was not far from her hut.
One day, she found a golden snail. She took the snail home and put it in the jar in her kitchen. She kept the snail well and fed it enough food.
Several days later, after coming back from her daily fishing she found delicious meal on the table. Her hut was clean. And this happened almosst for a long time.
Then one day, she did not go fishing. But she peeped from outside of her hut she saw a beautiful princess going out of the jar where she kept golden snail. The princess prepared the meal and cleaned the hut.
The princess was surprised when Mbok Rondo Dadapan came in and asked "Who are you?" So the princess told her life and was willing to be Mbok Rondo Dadapan's daughter. Finally, she did not become a golden snail anymore.
